Awesome Blossom Toss'em - May 2010

The Awesome Blossom Toss'em kid's disc golf tournament was held in Spring of 2010. The event introduced a new-and-improved Sherwood Forest disc golf course to the community. ABT was a combined effort between the Outsiders and the Chico Area Recreation and Parks District (CARD). CARD funded the material cost of improvements to the course, and paid for 100 custom stamped golf discs to be given away. The Outsiders organized the volunteer effort to make the improvements. We made use of a Disney program called "Give a day, get a Disney day". Volunteers were able to work and earn a free ticket to a Disney Park. Outsiders V.P. Gregg Payne also donated his artistic talent to the project by creating the custom stamp (inset on image below), and creating the giant arrows installed as an obstacle at hole 8. Course improvments included the installation of 6 giant arrows, 4'x6' concrete tee pads, a set of steps for hole 1, revamped interpretive signs, and the distribution of mulch throughout the site. 60 children showed up for the event, and a free disc. 23 remained for the second hour and played in a scored tournamnet. The Outsiders collected prizes for the tournament winners from the Awards Company (3 trophy’s), Chico Sports LTD (6 discs), and we also provided additional prizes (6 plaques, 3 tyedye discs, and 3 mini-discs). The total retail value of the prizes was about $250. 9 tournament players received prizes (1st through 3rd places for each age group).
