Short But Sweet...

We're keeping this month's newsletter brief.  Benches and wet weather use are disc golf related topics the city is covering.  We're still working on a management agreement and implementation guide for the city.

Our hope is that by next summer all pieces will be in place to begin the construction and management of the highway 32 disc golf courses.  To make that deadline we need hole sponsors and more annual members.

Please get involved and help keep this recreation in Bidwell Park.

Upcoming Events

Annual Members Meeting Sept. 19th - We'll be meeting for breakfast and to talk about what things the Outsiders will be trying to accomplish in 2010.  If you're a member you'll receive and evite to this event, if you'd like to join, the membership information may be found at this web page.

Hole Sponsors  - Members
We're looking for hole sponsors for the highway 32 disc golf course.  A hole sponsorship is $500 and will be used to purchase the basket for a hole. Additional fundraising events will be used to pay for the construction and other requirements of the highway 32 disc golf course.

Being a hole sponsor is a great way to support public access and recreation in Bidwell Park.

In addition to hole sponsors we need roughly 100  members to meet the volunteer requirement and cover upkeep costs of the highway 32 disc golf site.  The cost of membership is $50 annually with most of that cost being tax exempt.

To get more information about sponsoring a hole or becoming a member please contact us (info@chico-outsiders.com)

City Speak

There was a news story in the Chico ER about the park commission being unhappy that the unofficial disc golf benches haven't been removed from the highway 32 site yet (see story here).

The removal of the benches was something the city was supposed to accomplish when it had the time/manpower.  We expect the benches to be removed within the month.  Benches like those on the disc golf course would not be allowed to be placed anywhere else in Bidwell Park, so their removal shouldn't be unexpected.

As part of the highway 32 disc golf course design we're planning new, more natural, benches.  So we would ask people to live with the inconvenience of not being able to sit until the next phase of the course creation begins.

In addition to being concerned about where people relax, the park commission wants an interim wet weather policy in place for this winter.  This will likely be similar to the previous policy (course closed during rain and for a period afterwards).  We're not sure how this new policy will look when it is complete, but wet weather play will be restricted.
Shasta Series

The Outsiders are talking with people that put on the Shasta Series.  Our hope is that we can bring a tournament to Chico early in 2010, as part of the series and as a fundraising event for the highway 32 courses.

The tournament would probably be sited in a CARD park, as was done last year.  But we're definitely hoping we can work with this regional torunament series, and get it up and running again in Chico.
