On 3-18 the Park Commission's Policy Advisory Committee approved the wording of our contract to operate the highway 32 disc golf course.  It goes to the entire commission on 3-29.  After that it will need to be approved by the City Council.

Assuming nobody throws any monkey wrenches at us; construction on the long course should begin by September 1st of this year.  If early approvals occur, and we can get a "raptor study" done at a reasonable price we could be building the highway 32 disc golf site sooner.

As part of the matching funds agreement ($52,000 allocated for disc golf improvements in January by the City Council) we would also expect to remove the short course and distribute disc golf targets throughout parks in Chico this summer.

100 golf discs, custom designed by artist Gregg Payne, will be given out to children 14 and under on the day of the event (visit http://www.chico-outsiders.com for disc design). Please register online with CARD prior to the event to ensure a disc is waiting for you(http://www.chicorec.com).  Registration begins after April 5th.

The event will include a 1-hour free-play game of disc golf with hints and tips provided by members of the Outsiders. The free discs will be given away during the free-play. A second hour consisting of a scored tournament with prizes will be available to children 9-14.

Date: May 15th, 2010.

Time:  Free-play 10AM-11AM. Tournament: 11:30AM-12:30PM.

Sherwood Forest Work Day:
We'd like to thank the 68 volunteers that came out to the Sherwood Forest work day last month.  We accomplished a lot of work.  56 people earned vouchers for a free Disney park ticket. 274 volunteer hours were put into the Sherwood Forest project including installing concrete tee pads, distributing mulch, and adding Robin Hood themed obstacles to the course.

Disney has since completed the "Give a Day, Get a Day" program after giving out 1,000,000 free tickets nationwide.  So the opportunity to earn free tickets is no longer available.

Anonymous Donation:
Since we received our anonymous offer to match up to $4,000 in donations for the disc golf project we've raised close to $3,000.   We've got just a few weeks to raise the remaining $1,000.  Because this match is also matched by the City of Chico, each dollar is worth $4 to the highway 32 project.  A donation of just $25 multiplies out to $100 in funding.

Please help us receive the total match of $4,000 by donating today (http://www.chico-outsiders.com/Outsiders/Donate.html).

We also have 8 hole sponsorships remaining, and would like to thank those businesses and individuals who have already chosen to support the highway 32 project by sponsoring a disc golf hole.

Join The Outsiders
In order to keep the highway 32 disc golf site open for play the Outsiders must pay for monitoring studies, maintenance, and insurance.  We need a membership base of 100 people to make this happen.

For about $4 per month you can keep disc golf alive in Bidwell Park by joining the Outsiders.  Membership is $50 per year.  You can pay in a lump sum, or pay $10 every other month for 10 months.
