In April the City Council approved our operating agreement with some minor changes. We still expect to begin building the Project 32 18-hole advanced course on September 1st, and hopefully finish before the end of November. 18 practice targets will be installed in parks around Chico prior to that. We're also hopeful that 12 additional targets, which constitute a replacement for the short course will be located by September.
We expect to remove both the long and short courses from highway 32 as the first step in reconstructing the long course. The more volunteers we get to help with the project, the faster the long course will be up and running, and ready for use. Please consider donating to the project, joining the Outsiders, and/or volunteering your labor.
A timeline for construction is posted on our Project 32 web page. If you have any questions about Project 32 please contact me.

Flower Power The weather forecast for this Saturday's event, The Awesome Blossom Toss'em, looks great. We hope some of you have pre-registered your children with CARD for a free Awesome Blossom Toss'em disc. If, not, you've got a couple of more days to do it (see our web site for how to pre-register with CARD).
The ABT starts at 10AM on Saturday May 15th. It will be held at the Sherwood Forest disc golf course in Chico (1928 Manzanita Ave.). The Chico Area Recreation and Park District (CARD) has made some nice improvements to the site including the removal of star-thistle, adding a native tree/shrub planting area, concrete tee-pads, and the inclusion of giant arrows as obstacles on one disc golf hole. The Outsiders managed much of the volunteer work that installed the improvements.
CARD has also purchased 100 ABT custom designed discs that will be given away between 10-11AM to kids 14 and under. The disc artwork was designed by local artist Gregg Payne. See our web site for the disc design. If you're child is pre-registered: Discs will held until 11:30AM for your child. If your child is not pre-registered: If less than 100 children register before the event we will give out discs to children 14 and under while supplies last (until 11AM).
At 11:30AM a disc golf tournament for kids 9-14 will be held. Competition will be in 3 age groups (9-10,11-12,13-14) . Prizes for 1st through 3rd place in each age group have been donated by Chico's Awards Company, Sports LTD, and the Outsiders.

Community Events
May 15th: Shasta Series at Lava Creek in Paradise If you don't have kids, or if Awesome Blossom Toss'eming is not your cup of tee, a Shasta Series disc golf tournament is being held this Saturday. There is usually some limited space for walk-ons. Check with the Facebook group Lava Creek Disc Golf Club to find out how to take part. June 12-13th: CARD's Community Campout
CARD will be having its annual campout at the Hooker Oark Recreation Area on this weekend. Campers usually set up on the softball field adjacent to the Sherwood Forest disc golf course. This is a fun event to introduce little kids to camping, or to test out your gear before a summer of outdoor activity.
The Outsiders will lead campers on a night hike to the Chico Observatory for an evening of star gazing. June 21-25th: Sherwood Forest Disc Golf Camp Kids 9-14 can register for the Sherwood Forest Disc Golf Camp through CARD (http://www.chicorec.com/Summer-Camps/Athletic-Camps/index.html). The cost is $75 for the week of June 21-25, 8AM-12PM. Instructor proceeds from the camp will be donated to the highway 32 project. |

Old Discs Never Die
I plan on spending some time during the week of 5-16 to 5-23 in front of local stores promoting disc golf and creating interest in the game. I'll have a full-sized and mini baskets for people to shoot at. But I need some old discs for this effort.
I'm asking for donations of old golf discs. If you have any discs laying around that you'd be willing to give away please contact me. Some of the discs may be sold, with money raised going to the Project 32 disc golf course.
