Volunteer Now!

The city of Chico has agreed to match volunteer work with funds for disc golf improvements.  They will pay for $23 of materials for each hour of volunteer time you donate.  So 4 hours of work equals a $100 donation supporting disc golf.  Now is the time to volunteer.

We're installing 24 disc golf targets in local Chico parks this month (Mach V baskets). In August we expect to be building components for the highway 32 course (off-site), and in September we'll start construction of that project.

The first volunteer opportunity will be between July 20th-22nd from 6-8PM on each day.  We'll be installing target bases in parks.  If you'd like to help at any point in the coming months send us an email so we can let you know about volunteer opportunities (

Happenings

SSS10:  The Summer Solstice Slam 2010 was a brutal success.  Playing 4 disc golf courses, over 2 days, in the summer heat was a challenge.  But we made it more tolerable by starting Saturday at the Anderson Valley Brewing Company, whose tap room is surrounded by a disc golf course.  Saturday afternoon we played a Lake Mendocino course that was just a few hundred feet from our campground.  Sunday included the venerable Low Gap Park in Ukiah, and Steady Ed's stomping ground, the Highland Springs Reservoir disc golf course.

Todd won the event with regular 40' dead-eye putts and an overall score in the area of +6.  Rich took the DFL trophy, and was the only person to shoot +2 at hole 15 of the Highland Springs course (inside joke).

CARD Disc Golf Class:  In June CARD had its first disc golf class.  The class was for kids 9-14, but a couple of younger kids snuck in.  Students learned a variety of throwing styles, as well as the rules of disc golf.

Each day play started at Sherwood Forest. As the day progressed, and the sun became more persistant, we moved to shaded areas of Hooker Oak and 5-Mile recreation areas to play on portable targets.

The instructor proceeds are being donated to Project 32 as a hole sponsorship under the name Sherwood Forest Lionhearts.
