JUNE-18th: Outsiders sign operating agreement - Purchase 24 disc golf targets

On June 18th the operating agreement between the Chico Outsiders and the city of Chico, was signed. The agreement requires that the we maintain an insurance policy, fund monitoring studies of plants and trees, and maintain an 18-hole disc golf course at highway 32. In addition, the agreement calls for the placement of 18 disc golf targets locally, and another 12 to be sited within 2 years.

In July we installed 24 disc golf targets in the following local parks: Wildwood (6), Community (6), Petersen (3), Knob Hill/Husa Ranch (3), Hancock (3), and Baroni (3). These installations were approved by the park commission, CARD, and the City Council and were funded by proposition 40 grant money. Visit our disc golf page to find out about all disc golf opportunities in Chico.

Awesome Blossom Toss'em:
We'd like to thank the Chico Area Recreation and Park District for supporting disc golf in Chico. They co-sponsored the Awesome Blossom Toss'em event by providing the free custom discs. The Outsiders would also like to think Chico's Awards Company, and Sports LTD for donating to the prizes we were able to put together for the tournament winners. We had about 100 people attend, with about 60 kids 14 and under. 23 kids took part in our scored tournament.

A $4,000 gift and more:
An anonymous donation of $4,000 was made to the highway 32 disc golf project.  The generous donor committed to matching funds we raise during a 6 week period, up to $4,000.  Donations made during that time frame were worth 4x the donated amount because the city of Chico has also agreed to match funds.  During that time frame we were able to match all $4,000, which translated to $16,000 for Project 32.

The Chico Outsiders continue to solicit donations in any dollar amount in order to maximize our fundraising effort.  If you can donate ANY amount to the disc golf project it will be matched by the city (up to a maximum of $42,000). Donations are tax exempt, and may be made at our donate page with major credit cards.  Hole sponsorship opportunities($500) are also available. When included as part of this matching program a $500 hole sponsorship would be worth $1,000 to the disc golf project.

Shasta Series -
Thanks go out to Outsiders Chip Frink, Mark Bohn, and Don Hansler, for helping organize and run the Shasta Series Chico Challenge (held 2-6-10). 78 disc golfers showed up and played two rounds of golf at Community Park. This regional traveling tournament has helped grow the sport of disc golf by introducing players to our region's courses. As the Shasta Series has grown more courses are coming online, and the various disc golf communities in the north state are communicating with each other. The Outsiders were proud to sponsor this event in Chico.
